In vitro comparative study of the surface properties of materials for removable prosthetic bases

Objectives: This work aimed to evaluate and compare the surface roughness, contact angle, C. albicans adhesion in three materials for removable denture bases: polymethylmethacrylate thermoplastic resins polypropylene polyolefin. Methods: Nine samples were manufactured, of each material (n=3): polypropylene, polyolefin, (control group). The fabricated by injection technique compression technique. After laboratory polishing, roughness (Ra Rz) was assessed with 3D optical meter NPFLEX, angle measured tensiometer Contact system OCA15. through colony- forming unit assays (n=9). ANOVA Kruskal-Wallis tests done groups, considering a significance level 0.05. Results: All values obtained control group lower than those resins. Statistically significant differences found: Ra between (0.15±0.072 μm) (0.03±0.006 (p=0.045); groups (p<0.001) – (26.57±6.719°), (57.57±11.098°), polyolefin (69.06±8.955°); (p=0.007) (p=0.013). Conclusions: In tested conditions assessed, showed lowest adhesion, thus exhibiting better properties bases materials.
